Brazilian photographer Leonardo Sens has achieved a remarkable feat by capturing a breathtaking photograph of Christ the Redeemer seemingly ‘holding’ the moon with both hands. After three years of unsuccessful attempts, Sens finally achieved his long-awaited shot on Sunday.

Located in the Rio de Janeiro municipality of Niterói, Leonardo Sens captured the viral photo from Icaraí Beach, nearly seven miles away from the iconic 98-foot high statue. The image showcases the majestic monument atop the Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca National Park, with the moon positioned directly above it.

Sens revealed that he had dedicated the past three years to studying the moon’s alignment in order to capture this extraordinary moment. He meticulously planned his shot, identifying the specific time of year when the moon would align perfectly with the concrete and soapstone statue, which stands as Brazil’s primary tourist attraction. Utilizing various applications, Sens determined the precise times and dates when the moon would be positioned directly above Christ the Redeemer.

In his pursuit of the perfect shot, Sens had even invested in a new set of lenses two years prior, hoping to capture closer and more detailed photographs of the moon and the sun. However, despite his extensive preparation, the photographer encountered numerous challenges along the way.

On the day before the successful shot, Sens almost captured the desired image but was thwarted by a thick blanket of clouds. However, he remained determined and returned the following day to Icaraí Beach, equipped with his tripod and ready to seize the moment.

As luck would have it, the conditions rapidly changed, allowing Sens to position himself accordingly as the moon began its descent. With the tripod set up and the moon aligning perfectly with Christ the Redeemer, Sens finally achieved his long-awaited photograph.
