Unleashing the Power: Introducing the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost

Rolls-Royce has introduced the “Black Badge” label since 2016 for more driver-focused versions of their deeply traditional cars. This variant has gained popularity among buyers, and over time, the Black Badge version became available for all models, except the most expensive and prestigious Phantom. These models now account for 27% of the company’s sales. Now, Rolls-Royce has decided to strengthen the positioning of the “Black” variants.

From now on, “Black Badge” is no longer a prefix but a suffix, and it appears immediately after the marque in the car’s name. Additionally, the range of decor options for Black Badge models has been significantly expanded, including shades that were previously considered inappropriate for Rolls-Royce. The company aims to divert modern buyers from the tuning industry, which is willing to fulfill any, even the most tasteless whim.

The enhanced philosophy of the “Black Badge” is fully showcased in the new generation Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost sedan. The car, as depicted in official photos, features a black and blue interior with carbon fiber accents, in addition to the traditional black decor and dark wood found in Black Badge versions.

The signature body color is referred to as the “darkest in the automotive industry,” requiring 45 kg of paint applied in multiple layers. However, customers can also order the car in any other color they desire. Another distinctive feature of the Black Badge version is the 21-inch composite wheels. The hub and spokes are made of lightweight alloy, while the rim is carbon fiber, woven with 44 layers of carbon fiber.

There are also technical enhancements. The 6.75-liter V12 twin-turbocharged engine has been upgraded from the base 571 hp and 850 Nm to 600 hp and 900 Nm, matching the performance figures of the Black Badge Cullinan crossover. The car now features a new exhaust system, but the most interesting addition is the separate powertrain sport mode, a first for Rolls-Royce Ghost models. Previously considered unconventional, this mode is activated discreetly with a button labeled “Low,” analogous to a lower gear in the transmission. The automatic transmission shifts gears 50% faster and keeps the engine in a more responsive state for longer.

The accelerator pedal has been slightly more responsive, the chassis and all-wheel-drive transmission settings have been adjusted to offer a more engaging driving experience, and the brake pedal travel has been reduced. The sedan has become slightly more dynamic, achieving a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 4.7 seconds, compared to 4.8 seconds in the base model. The top speed remains electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost sedans are now available for order through dealerships, exclusively in the standard wheelbase variant. In the UK, prices start from £325,000.
