From Surprise to Joy: Embracing Motherhood of Triplets

Motherhood often unfolds as an unforeseen journey, filled with unexpected twists and turns. For 31-year-old Minda, living in Oslo, Norway, and her partner Glenn Uvheim, the dream of having a child took an astonishing turn when they discovered they were expecting not one, but three little ones.

In a candid Instagram post, Minda expressed her shock at the news, calling it “the most unexpected news I could have ever got.” The couple’s anticipation of welcoming a child was suddenly transformed into the reality of becoming parents to triplets.

“I had thousands of thoughts,” Minda revealed. “I wanted them all, but I did not want three children at the same time. I thought about all the complications that could occur with a triplet pregnancy, and I felt extremely scared and confused.”

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the birth rate for triplets or higher-order births is approximately 101 out of every 100,000 live births. Minda and Glenn found themselves in a unique situation, one that brought both joys and challenges.

Being triplets meant being inextricably linked, and they often encountered comparisons from others. Their identities blended into a collective “the Mindas.” However, amid the occasional complexities, their bond grew stronger. Minda shared, “But most of the time it was amazing. And still is. I have gone through life having two best friends.”

On January 29, Minda and Glenn welcomed their three bundles of joy into the world: Filip, Henrik, and Amelia. Minda documented her journey of raising the triplets on Instagram, offering glimpses into the highs and lows of motherhood.

She also openly discussed the health implications of carrying three babies. Minda herself had tachycardia, a condition characterized by a rapid heartbeat. Concerned about the strain it could place on her heart, doctors recommended removing at least one fetus. However, Minda and Glenn made the courageous decision to proceed with the triplet pregnancy.

The first 20 weeks were particularly challenging for Minda, marked by persistent nausea and health concerns. Throughout the pregnancy, she grappled with a rapid pulse and breathing difficulties. The babies faced some growth issues, adding to Minda’s anxiety.

When the triplets were born via C-section, Minda faced post-partum challenges, including viral infections. She shared her struggles on social media, describing the painful battle against various illnesses.

Today, five months later, the triplets are healthy, and Minda has emerged from her trials stronger than ever. Motherhood of three has transformed her, giving her a newfound courage and a different perspective on life.

Minda is also grateful for the unwavering support of her two sisters, who have been instrumental in her journey. Their presence has brought her courage during tough times and the reassurance that she will never face life’s challenges alone.

“Becoming a first-time mother to three little babies has made me a different person,” Minda wrote on Instagram. “No matter what life will bring, I will always have two amazing people to count on.”
