Bell V-280 Valor from Textron selected as new US Army long-range assault aircraft

Bell Textron Inc., a Textron company, was awarded the development contract for the U.S. Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program, Textron Inc. said today.

The application is based on Bell’s V-280 Valor tiltrotor, which was created and tested as part of the Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator (JMR TD) program, which started in 2013. The V-280 achieved success through its design, manufacture, and more than three years of rigorous flight testing, which produced extensive data outlining the advantages of the aircraft for the long-range assault mission. This article builds on a decade of the V-280 Valor success through design, manufacture, and rigorous testing to show that this aircraft will operate in accordance with FLRAA post-flight inspection requirements. In collaboration with the Amy, Bell and its industrial partners have carefully developed the V-280 accelerator and its open systems approach.

The initial contract specifies the design, sustainment, manufacturing, digital engineering, systems integration, flight-testing, and AI-worthiness certification of the armament system. This initiative builds on Bell’s history of more than 85 years of providing 30,000 reliable commercial and military customers in the United States and around the world with lift products.

The V-280 made its fiгst flight on 18 Decembeг 2017 in Amaгillo, Texas. he V-280 is designed foг a cгuising speed of 280 knots (320 mph; 520 km/h), hence the name V-280, a top speed of 300 knots (345 mph; 556 km/h), a гange of 2,100 nautical miles (2,400 mi; 3,900 km), and an effectiʋe combat гange of 500 to 800 nmi (580 to 920 mi; 930 to 1,480 km).
