Baby Cry Love: A Heartwarming Story of a Malnourished Toddler Finding Happiness in a Simple Piece of Bread

In early 2016, a heart-wrenching photo of a malnourished Nigerian toddler named Hope spread across social networks, capturing the world’s attention. Found abandoned on the streets and shunned by his family and villagers who accused him of being a witch, Hope’s future seemed bleak. However, his life took a remarkable turn when he was rescued and adopted by Anja Ringgren Loven, a Danish volunteer and founder of the charity DIN Nødhjæl.

At the time of his rescue, Hope was severely malnourished and plagued by various illnesses, which made his condition critical during the initial days of his hospitalization. Anja, determined to save him, tirelessly cared for him at the charity’s center, where she had been looking after hundreds of abandoned children for eight years.

Over the following four years, Hope’s life underwent a miraculous transformation. Through Anja’s love and care, he regained his health and happiness. Today, he is a healthy and bright young boy with a passion for art, especially drawing, and some of his paintings have even been sold. His talent has earned him the affectionate nickname “the little Picasso.”

Despite not being able to reunite with his biological parents or any relatives, Hope finds solace in the photo of his rescue, proudly acknowledging how far he has come. Anja, now an ambassador for Universal Peace Federation International, emphasizes the importance of teaching children forgiveness and removing prejudices from society. She believes that every child deserves access to education, healthcare, and social protection, and that no society can prosper without safeguarding these basic human rights.

The issue of witchcraft accusations against children is prevalent in some communities, often stemming from unfortunate events like death, illness, crop failure, unemployment, or infertility. Innocent children are unjustly labeled as witches and suffer abandonment by their own communities.

Anja and her dedicated team have provided a safe haven for over 300 children and currently care for 76 children at DI N Nødhjæl, the largest children’s center in West Africa. Some of the children they rescue have experienced unimaginable horrors, including torture, sexual abuse, and even being buried alive.

Anja emphasizes the power of education as a transformative tool to combat ignorance and prejudice. She believes in promoting human interaction and communication instead of judgment to bring about positive change in society. Through advocacy programs in rural areas, she aims to enlighten minds and foster a better understanding of the importance of protecting the rights and wellbeing of every child.

Hope’s story serves as a heartwarming reminder that compassion, love, and education have the power to heal and uplift even the most vulnerable among us. It is a testament to the positive impact that dedicated individuals and organizations can have in changing lives and building a brighter future for children in need.
