Choosing names for one’s future children is a task that parents take seriously, knowing that these names will become an integral part of their identity throughout their lives. However, in some cases, the names chosen may invite criticism or teasing, which can be a cause for concern.
Recently, a mother shared her apprehension about the names she had chosen for her six-month-old twins on an online forum. The children have not been officially registered yet, and the mother sought advice regarding her children’s names.
Anonymously, she recounted her situation on NetMums, explaining that her twins are named Charlie and Lola, just like the popular children’s television series, which also has accompanying books.
The mother confessed that she made this decision hastily, while under the influence of Tramadol, a medication administered to her for pain relief shortly after giving birth. Tramadol is known to affect neurological functions and can even cause hallucinations.
While she expressed that she genuinely liked both names, she feared that they might discomfort her children due to the association with the characters from the children’s show.
“I need advice, I have six-month-old twins named Charlie (boy) and Lola (girl). Don’t get me wrong, I love both names, but I feel like I made the wrong decision, and I always get uncomfortable reactions when people ask. Originally, I had doubts, but when I had them, I had been taking Tramadol for several days, and I feel like that influenced my rushed decision,” the mother explained.
She further noted that she must register her children soon, so she is under pressure to make a decision promptly. She mentioned that if she were to change one name, it would be from Lola to Lila, making it just a one-letter difference and less confusing for everyone, including the baby.
Her primary concern is the potential for her children to face ridicule due to their names being associated with the siblings in the widely broadcast children’s program.
“I worry they will be teased because of the ‘Charlie and Lola’ show. My partner thinks I’m being ridiculous, but I’m the one spending the most time with other parents and children, and I always fear people’s reactions when they ask their names,” she added.
Many users responded to the mother’s query, with some advising her not to worry about the comments her children might receive because of their names.
Others encouraged her to change the names if she had doubts, as they believed it was not too late to reconsider.
“It’s your decision, as the babies haven’t been registered; I don’t think it’s too late. Your little one won’t realize that was her name, and the people around you will adapt,” one user wrote.
