Speculation is heating up about a possible 2025 remake of New Jack City on Netflix, with Sterling K. Brown in the leading role.

Is the 2025 New Jack City on Netflix Real or Fake?

A Facebook user named Destinee Fritch shared a poster claiming a 2025 remake of the 1991 action/thriller New Jack City, presented as a series instead of a movie.

The fan-made poster features Emmy-winner Sterling K. Brown as Nino Brown, a role originally portrayed by Wesley Snipes. The poster also indicates a Netflix release in 2025.

The post includes the following synopsis:

“‘NEW JACK CITY’ SERIES COMING TO NETFLIX!!! | First Trailer | Coming 2025

In the new series New Jack City, Sterling K. Brown stars as the ruthless and cunning Nino Brown, who rises to power in New York City’s drug underworld. Along with his Cash Money Brothers crew, he controls the synthetic drug market while facing off against veteran detective Scotty Appleton, played by Mahershala Ali. With corruption running deep and stakes higher than ever, the series explores themes of power, loyalty, and survival over an eight-episode arc. Season 1 premieres on Netflix in August 2025.”

However, this poster is purely fan-made. Despite the buzz, a verified reboot of New Jack City was announced back in 2019, with Malcolm M. Mays as the writer (per Deadline).

In addition, the original screenwriter, Barry Michael Cooper, teased a new project in 2021 via X (formerly Twitter), hinting at a prequel or sequel titled The Diary of Nino Brown: The Monster Reagan Created, though no further updates followed.

Will There Be a New Jack City Reboot in 2025?

While a 2025 reboot seems unlikely, there has been ongoing interest in reviving the story. The COVID-19 pandemic may have slowed development following the 2019 announcement. Additionally, Cooper’s teased project from 2021 has remained silent since his social media post.

This is not the first time a New Jack City reboot has sparked rumors. In January, another viral poster featured Mahershala Ali in a similar Netflix reboot concept, which also turned out to be fake.

As of now, no official New Jack City series or movie has been announced for Netflix in 2025. Fans can still enjoy the original New Jack City streaming on Tubi and Sling TV.
