Mare of Easttown – Season 2 (2026): Could the Ultimate Crossover Be on the Horizon?

HBO Max recently wrapped up its gripping series Task, leaving fans with a satisfying conclusion—but for many, the ending also opened the door to exciting possibilities, including a potential Mare of Easttown crossover.

After seven action-packed episodes, Task concluded with a dramatic finale on October 20. In the last episode, Jayson (Sam Keeley) carried out his deadly revenge against Perry (Jamie McShane) over the death of his wife, Eryn (Margarita Levieva). The plan ended abruptly when Grasso (Fabien Frankel) shot Jayson from the backseat of his car. In the aftermath, Tom (Mark Ruffalo) and Maeve (Emilia Jones) are left to pick up the pieces and focus on rebuilding their lives.
While the series wrapped up neatly, fans of Task shouldn’t completely rule out a second season. Originally billed as a miniseries, the show’s creator, Brad Ingelsby—also the creative force behind the acclaimed Mare of Easttown starring Kate Winslet—has hinted at possibilities that could connect the two series.

The idea is tantalizing. Though talks of a Mare of Easttown season 2 never fully materialized, the ending of Task seems designed to leave room for further storytelling. Tom and Maeve’s lives, upended by the Dark Hearts motorcycle gang, feel like they are only at the starting line of a new chapter—perfectly positioned for a narrative intersection with Winslet’s Mare.

“I think there were still more stories to be told about people in Delaware County,” Ingelsby told The Hollywood Reporter. “They exist in the same world, so it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Mare walked into a Wawa [convenience store] that Tom was in. I don’t have a story in mind that’s a crossover, but I love the idea of their worlds intersecting.”

For many fans, this statement is enough to fuel hope. Mare of Easttown was already considered one of the strongest series of the 21st century, with its storylines neatly resolved in season 1. A direct second season wasn’t strictly necessary—but a crossover with Task could add fresh tension and drama while preserving the integrity of both narratives.

That said, there is a practical hurdle: as of now, HBO Max has not commissioned Task season 2 and has no announced plans to do so. Nevertheless, the open-ended nature of Task’s finale leaves room for speculation, and with Ingelsby at the helm, the Delaware County universe could expand in exciting ways.
Whether or not a crossover happens, fans can at least dream of a future where the worlds of Task and Mare of Easttown collide, delivering the kind of gripping storytelling and complex characters that both series are known for.
