Unusual Colored Crocodile Appears in Australia

A crocodile with a peculiar coloration named Snappy, residing in the city of Geelong near Melbourne, Australia, has suddenly changed its skin color to orange. Despite being extremely rare, the fact that the 2.4-meter-long saltwater crocodile abruptly transformed its skin to a shiny golden hue has left Tracy Sandstrom, the caretaker and trainer, more concerned than delighted.

“I’m afraid it might actually be sick. I think it might die,” expressed Sandstrom.

However, after a small investigation, it was discovered that Snappy often sleeps in a hot tub at night and had chewed on the water pipes, causing damage to the filtration system. This incident rendered the water filter ineffective and resulted in a significant increase in the water’s pH level.

Experts believe that the combination of red algae or tannins produced by fallen leaves in the water, coupled with the high pH concentration, caused Snappy’s skin to turn orange. After a period of avoiding contact with water containing such compounds, Snappy’s skin will revert back to its normal green color.

Coincidentally damaging the water pipes has turned Snappy into the most uniquely colored crocodile ever seen.

However, this unintentional occurrence has given Snappy an extraordinary and distinctive appearance. Some collectors have expressed their desire to have Snappy in their collections.
